Cumberland Council sent this bulletin at 21-06-2023 11:54 AM BSTSummer Reading Challenge 2023 Cumbria has enjoyed huge success in the Summer Reading Challenge in recent years. Such opportunities are highlighted by the EEF as a valuable experience for all children, and especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. The theme for 2023 is Ready, Set, Read! It’s about getting into reading, getting active and enjoying a whole new reading challenge this summer! This annual national event, presented by The Reading Agency and funded by Arts Council England, encourages children aged 4 to 11yrs (there is also a mini challenge so younger siblings 0-3yrs don’t miss out!) to set themselves a reading challenge through the summer holidays. A promotional video from The Reading Agency about this year’s theme can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__ExdzL0s4E Childminder Mentor Programme The Department for Education (DfE) is offering a programme of support for childminders across England, from May 2023 until July 2024. The Childminder mentor programme is focused on supporting childminders to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the youngest and most disadvantaged children. By joining this programme, you will receive support from experienced early years practitioners who have at least three years' experience as a childminder or supporting childminders, in the roles of Area Lead and Mentor. The support is free and available across England. Please follow this link for further information and to apply.
